Slovakia may stop supplying electricity to other EU countries

Oct 03, 2022

A few days ago, Slovakia Prime Minister Eduard Hegel said that Slovakia could only get 115 million euros out of the estimated 140 billion euros in EU taxes on energy companies.

But based on population proportions, Slovakia should have received 1.5 billion euros in taxes. In addition, Eduard Hegel said that Slovakia has signed electricity supply contracts with some EU countries for 2023, but the sales price is much lower than the current electricity price level. In response, Eduard Hegel warned that Slovakia could stop supplying electricity to other EU countries if it does not get more help from the EU in dealing with soaring energy prices.
